Prepare all the ingredients.
the fruits and raisins in rum.
Meanwhile, mix the butter and sugar with a wooden spatula until pale and foamy.
Add the eggs and mix.
Add the milk and soaked fruits. Mix well.
At last, combine the sifted flour with the baking powder.
You should get a homogeneous batter.
Butter a cake pan.
Fill it up to 3/4 of its volume.
Bake in a warm oven (180°C or 356°F) for 40 minutes.
After a few minutes the cake starts to rise...
...and browns nicely. Check that the cake is baked at the end by dipping the blade of a knife in it. If it comes out dry, the cake is ready.
Take out of the oven.
Unmold and leave to cool.
